Creative Strings Collective rehearsal

Event Description: If you play violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, drum set or percussion and would like to audition as a new member of CSC, please plan on a 10 minute audition, Thursday, January 24th between 1 and 4pm (contact director to set up) Audition will include: 3 octave scale of your choice solo or orchestral piece that you are already familiar and an excerpt (contact director for parts) Please be in communication with director Amber Dolphin about your interest and/or audition before the first rehearsal which will be 4:15-6:15pm, January 24th.
CSC is a music loving, fun group. Come join us! MUSI 057. CreativeStrings Collective (.25) This innovative string ensemble (violin, viola, cello, bass) breaks into nonconventional genres for strings in addition to performing traditional string orchestra repertoire. The course includes but is not limited to the following styles: bluegrass, blues, classical, jazz, Latin, pop, and tango. Students are encouraged to engage through performance, improvisation and theory with opportunities for arranging and composition. Students need only basic skills on their instrument and an open mind. Neither prior improvisational skills nor theory background are required. Open to all students, audition by director, Amber Dolphin. (dolphina@beloit.edu)

Turtle Tunes Music Outreach Info Meeting (teach music to 3rd graders)

Want to teach music to 3rd graders and get credit for it? (This .5 course fulfills the LAP 1 credit)


Turtle Tunes Music Outreach would love to have you join the student teaching team. For more information come to the meeting Thursday, January 24 in Hendricks, Room 221 from 6:30-6:50pm. Talk to other students who have been a part of the project and see if it's a good fit.


If you can't make the meeting, please send Amber Dolphin an e-mail (dolphina@beloit.edu) letting her know your interest in Turtle Tunes, what instrument(s) you play, and to schedule a meeting at a different time.


(Violinists, Violists, Cellists, Guitarists, Pianists, Drummers and anyone interested in teaching drumming, recorder or even ukulele are welcome)
Turtle Tunes Music Outreach Program is committed to making extra-curricular music lessons inclusive, accessible and affordable to local 3rd graders while creating a community engagement project for Beloit College students to develop skills and make meaningful connections. Lessons and instrument rental are completely free to participants. This creative outlet provides all students a safe space to build self-esteem, practice responsibility and develop a love for music.
More info: Students participate in teaching group and partner lessons at Todd Elementary 2 times a week, Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5:00 pm, 8 weeks total. Preparations, discussions and reflections occur during a semester-long class on Thursdays, time TBD. (new students to the program will register .50 unit, and continuing students will register .25 unit)
