Virtual Bookstore Presentation with Akademos

12:30 PM
Greetings Everyone,
We would like to invite you to attend to an open presentation by Akademos on Friday, April 12, 2019, from 12:30-1:30pm in Moore Lounge.
As most of you know, Beloit College has a physical store that sells textbooks, apparel, and other bookstore related items. In an effort to reduce costs, we have invited vendors to our campus to show us how Beloit College will look as a Virtual Bookstore.
We are looking for vendors that can provide innovative and exciting retail services, improve affordability options for students by reducing course material costs, as well as a best-in-class, one stop shop online bookstore. There will be time allocated after each presentation to allow for questions.
There will be a total of four (4) vendors on campus this month.
Save the dates!
Wednesday, April 17, 12:30-1:30 pm - eCampus
Monday, April 22, 12:30-1:30 pm- Follett
Friday, April 26, 12:30-1:30 pm - Barnes & Noble
All are encouraged to attend.

Girls & Women in Science (GWIS) Conference 2019

3:30 PM
What is Girls and Women in Science?
Girls and Women in Science is a minds-on, hands-on science workshop weekend for sixth grade girls, along with their teachers and parents. This award winning conference encourages the exploration of science and mathematics by middle school girls through two days of experiments, activities, and interaction with science professionals. The girls, teachers, and parents will work with Beloit College faculty, students, and alumnae. The entire weekend is designed to build confidence in the girls who attend by providing them with academic opportunities and encouragement from undergraduate female scientists.
When does it occur?
Girls and Women in Science occurs in spring of each year, usually in April. This year, it will occur from 3:30 pm April 12th - 4:45 pm April 13th, 2019.
Who can participate?
Girls and Women in Science is open to teams consisting of a 6th grade science teacher with one female student and her parent. However, girls are still eligible to apply if either their parent and/or teacher is unable to attend. Teachers who wish to bring additional students should contact Girls and Women in Science.
How much does it cost?
There is no participation fees. The weekend is supported by Beloit College. Girls will be hosted overnight at the college on Friday; parents and teachers will need to arrange their own accommodations for that night.
Please contact gwis@beloit.edu for any questions.

#GetWoke: Social Justice as Art

7:00 PM
This #GetWoke session will examine the role of art in activist and justice movements. Often times art and artists are at the forefront of inspiring, leading, and building social movements, yet their work is frequently disregarded. Art, including music, visual arts, performance, crafts, and writing, not only provide an outlet for marginalized people to express themselves unapologetically but is often the catalyst that sparks social change and provides a realm for healing. The panel will examine the roles that art takes on in social justice, its importance in movements, and what we can learn from artists who use their passion to advocate for equity.
